View Full Version : Players that annoy you.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I kinda get attached to my team (yes, I know, it is only a game), and sometimes make selections based on players I like, even if there is a player that might be slightly better (stats wise). That said, I have players that I just don't like. There's nothing wrong with them, per se, it's just that something about them irritates me. Maybe they get out to stupid shots, or they only seem to perform when it doesn't matter, or they are not in my team.

As an example (I'm playing ICC 2008 - I'm not posting this there, though, because I think it's revelant to all versions of the game, and no one goes in that forum anyways :P ), in my Bangladesh side, there is an allrounder by the name of Haque. He looks good on paper, so I keep picking him for my side. But he is a bit of an underperformer, and I am just loathe to throw him the ball. He seems economical enough, but he doesn't take wickets. I think he's taken 2 for me. I give him the ball now and again, but it is always begrudgingly. And with the bat, well, I just cringe when he comes in, and I feel like every time the highlight screen comes up with him on it, he's going to find another way of getting himself out. Occassionally he does put a decent score together, but even when the highlights flick over to what is probably going to be him making his 50, I still think "he's going to blow it".

Anyone else develop this "bond" with players, or am I just crazy, and need to find a life? :P

in a sense u do need to find a life but so do i as im attached to ICC10. Even though he keeps getting out on mine cheaply i still want to play steven croft (lancashire) because i just like him. whereas there are players u just hate on mine its mark chilton. with croft u feel like there is a massive innings just around the corner (like KP in real life) but there could be a youth player averaging 65+ but you still dont want to play him ahead of ure 'Blue Eyed Boy'

Is it just me who always wants to put their favourite bowler on to bowl against the tail, however badly they've bowled?

Nah. I do that with one of my Bangladeshie spinners - I just love the little fellah - he always looks like he's going to get wickets - spins the ball a mile, and gets a lot of played-and-misses, too.

I do that all the time lol They end up smacking him everywhere then getting out to the bowler at the other end

You're not alone, Phylos Fett. I get very attached to certain players to the point where I struggle to select a different team for a different format. This usually happens with regens, as their appearance, batting/bowling style, personality, etc are all in my imagination.

Yeah I find it really strange, but I do give preference to certain players. One example is Adil Rashid, I always use him a lot. (He does take wickets at an average of 20 though :p.)

I always chuck Chris Nash on when playing as England 'cause he's my favourite player. 28 test wickets at 30.89 isn't too bad.

u dont really need to get attached to adil rashid as he is awesome and performs every game without fail. u put ure favourite bowler against the tail as it reduces their average (if they take wickets) and makes them look better than they r but you like them

I keep getting irritated with Jimmy Adams in my Hampshire side. Perfectly fine in FC games but when it comes to the Limited overs stuff I keep picking him even though he scores very few runs in a lot of balls.

Yes a couple of years ago he was a Boycott-esque wall, but this year he is the leading T20 run scorer in England.

I also keep picking Simon Jones becuase of some 2005 Ashes-tinted spectacles, even though those days are a distant memory...
