View Full Version : Development?
Hello there, I saw in previews and things that there was going to be new player development features..?? I cant see anything like this though or are they just talking about the new shots you can teach the batsman and things? If thats all they have changed since the last game its pretty pathetic.
When it said player development I thought it might actually mean it would show the players skills out of 100 and things like on football manager games would it be that hard to do?

The ratings are hidden for a reason, in real life you can't see a rating out of 100 to evaluate a player, all you can do is look at what scores they're getting or how many wickets they're taking. The extra development allows you to improve your players' ratings in particular areas, or in general as well.

The player can develop. In the personal tab on a player's profile, where it says his preferences, these can change according to the training. That's the development.
Ok just saying though it would be good if it showed there attributes, so you would know if there underperforming or if there doing better than expected. Then you could imrpove the attributes with training.

As Dean said, the attributes are hidden to create realism.
This forum is here to get your ideas though, who knows, if it were to be implemented, it would have to be able to be masked, like it is on FM.

The problem here is that it isn't realistic.
I as a captain know the attributes of my players because I've seen them perform in the nets. I know what pace they bowl, how much swing they get, how durable they are.
For batsmen, I know what their concerntration spans are like, I know how good they are if they're on the offensive compared to the defensive.
Same with fielders, I know how good my fielders are and can place them in different spots.
I have no issue with it being ABLE to be masked, but as a change up, making the attributes able to be clearly seen and also see them rise/fall as a player ages would give a lot more control over the team, also more knowledge on how to coach potential stars because you SEE the results, rather than just sense them through scores.
Database editor would also be a huge improvement, every other scenario game has them.

Doesn't the combination of form and the player profile information tell you what the player's basic strengths and weaknesses are, plus what current condition they're in (the sort of information you would normally get from a net session)?
I much prefer not being able to see their basic attributes beyond this - personally I think it's more realistic. Besides, the fortunes of the current England team tell you that you can hardly base how players will perform in matches on how they do in the nets.

A database editor would just allow people to make all their players better, which could defeat the challenge of the game, and also ruin online play. We are committed to making the database better in the future however, and we encourage you to report any errors you find to us in the appropriate stickyed thread.

You are missing the point. Look at other games like cricket 07 that have an editor. Most people aren't bothered to tinker with the database, they simply want the most updated and ACCURATE rosters. Make the database editable so that the public can create a more accurate version of it. Or hire enough people to make the database more accurate.

The attributes have always been present but they have only not been shown. If we get a little help from the developers, I am sure someone who knows this database stuff can create an unofficial editor for people who want it(Remember brian_smith from planetcricket.net who edited stuff just with a hex editor? He was awesome.).
