Hello,
I don't usually post on these forums and apologise if someone has suggested this before. Basically, I'm a huge fan of ICC and have been playing since 2005; I really love the game and am totally addicted. I've downloaded the trail version of ICC 2008 and I think it's excellent. The graphics have been sharpened well and the opportunity to develop players adds an interesting dimension to it. I haven't spotted the bit where you can test out youth players in the first team as advertised yet (?) but I've only played one county game, so I'm sure I'll stumble across it.
As someone who owns ICC III, however, I don't really think this is enough to make me buy it. I'm not saying that the game hasn't improved - it has - and it's as excellent as ever, but it hasn't really changed enough. I don't know, but my guess is that a lot of people who own ICC III will be in the same position. I felt much the same when ICC 2006 came out with relation to ICC 2005, and the Ashes edition with relation to ICC 2006 in its original form.
My one regret as a continued ICC III player is that the teams at the start of a game and the international fixtures are a year out of date. Given that other games provide expansion packs, has anyone ever suggested doing a similar thing for ICC III? For a cheaper price - say £10 compared with the £17 or whatever it is for the full new game - owners of ICC III could create a "start in 2008" option, not necessarily containing all the new features but at least with the new county squads and player record updates.
It seems to me that at the moment the game changes a bit every year. Every two or three years I might feel inclined to buy the latest version because there have been enough changes over the course of that time to make it worth it. But I would be prepared to fork out a bit for expansion packs each year that updated squads and fixtures without changing the game instrumentally.
Just a thought, and maybe not a very realistic one, but I'd be interested to hear other people's views!
