You can also ask questions about the game if you like, and Sureshot and I will pass them on to Chris and get an FAQ going.
In this thread we will be posting official news, screenshots, videos and information to the game.
Over the next week or so we will be revealing several pieces of news related to the game, so stay tuned!
All news discussion can be discussed in here.

The first piece of news is an extended release on the publishing issues and the game format:
Childish Things are pleased to announce that they have negotiated the full rights to the International Cricket Captain series. Following the unfortunate fate of publishers Empire Interactive, who went into administration last month the rights to the game were in dispute. Owing to the many messages of support and overwhelming interest in the new game, Childish Things managed to secure the full rights to the game.
With the work that has gone into the game over the last year or so, it would have been a real shame to let it all go to waste, and especially with such a strong demand for the game in the forums and through the emails system, we are very excited to be able to give you the game you want very soon.
We are also please to announce that the game will be released in two formats once again this year - a CD version as well as a downloadable one.
We will have release date information soon, so keep checking this spot.

Thanks for the update Aus, great news!!.
Just a couple of questions....
1) Will the new version have any pre season fixtures?, ie university game/minor county etc?, as i remember this was included in a earlier version and i thought it was an excellent feature.....as it gave you a chance to test out youngsters and get players into some nick before the season started.
2) Will the new game have a wide screen resolution?, as most monitors are now, just be nice to get rid of the stretched look, without having to play in windowed mode.
Again thanks for keeping us informed.

Hey Sureshot
As you were saying(in a different thread) that ICC 09 is complete & will be released soon, could you please reveal some of its features????
I hope it is not merely a data update like the previous versions???
Will the ICC 09 feature domestic competetions from other countries too & what about the T20 World Cup????

Will the game start with the World T20 as is now happening?
aus5892

There have been quite a few questions about new tournaments, so we've decided to announce these first:
The new game will feature the Twenty20 World Cup, both ingame and as a standalone feature. To coincide with this, there has been major restructuring to the Twenty20 game engine to produce more realistic scores
There will not be any new playable leagues this year unfortunately due to a lack of time and resources, however there have been some major changes regarding the teams for each player (they now have NH and SH teams inside the game database as well as IPL - which will also mean county players will be unavailable if on IPL duty), Chris had this to say:
With a publisher, the changes you can make are constrained to what they want to see in the new game. With a limited budget set by Empire, we could only put in what they wanted and what improvements they saw as crucial. Now that we have full rights to the game, we have already begun setting up for more overseas leagues in 2010, something we will be aiming towards in the next game.
Stay tuned for more info soon.

Are you able to change the team you captain / coach / manage in the new game? For instance, a team does poorly, gets rid of captain / coach and you can apply to take over? Alternatively, just happen to get a couple of offers from new teams at the end of the year who have performed below expectations...
Are new staff incoporated, coaches and the like?
Is the youth structure the same, with little influence on what and who come through?

So that means no Aussie Domestic Comp.
So do you take care of a domestic and international side?
and if so does the domestic side have to from the international country you are?

The domestic teams are all from England in this version. Hopefully there will be more next year.
There are some new features in training, which we will announce soon.

I'm hoping they resolved the copyright issue with using ground and venue names, photos and the like. That was always an additional characteristic of the game that added a litte extra. It would be great to have that back in ICC2009.
Imagine if the Aussies can smash England at Sophia Gardens, and then decimate them at Lords, rather than just thrash them in the 1st Test, and win again in the 2nd.

One big minus point in ICC 08 were the Stadiums! they all looked alike and they had no names whatsoever!! In ICC 02 the Stadiums had their names and a different background wallpaper for each Stadium which was the contrast!!! Will the stadiums in ICC 09 have their unique names and appearances?

I would think that the 1st motion would be correct and the second one would be wrong. We still don't really know how the P20 and re-vamped Twenty20 cups will work, so there is no real use in replacing the good old Pro40 in game.

hmm...
hope all you guys are doing very well.. and hope icc 09 wuld be a nice game to look forward to.
i however would favour an improved version, wid more stats, more management and decision making over lots of diff game modes.
i thought a radical change of bringing retirement of coaches, firing, or even luring successful ones wuld have been great fun.
i am very happy to learn about the improved ai in terms of squad selection. this had been very irritating flaw of previous version.
look forward to the demo

Have we mentioned yet whether or not it's possible to change team during career?
Also, are we still expecting a pre-Ashes release?
the_trademarc
06-15-2009, 05:48 AM
I'm pretty sure it will be released pre-Ashes. The internet on various sites is stating 24th/25th June is the expected release date.
As well as Empire and Chris have done to organise the game to go ahead, if its not released pre-Ashes, at least a week before, it will be a big dent in the game's rep.
Here's hoping they follow up their hard and great work, and we can enjoy what is a great game.

06-15-2009, 06:46 AM
• AI bidding improvement to create more balanced teams and more competition for top players.
• Ability to declare during intervals.
• AI for close finishes and twenty over matches improved for more nail-biters.
• Batting aggression realism improved, to reflect real matches.
• Fielding engine enhanced to give greater accuracy and boost highlights watching.
• New in-game tips to help you master the game.
• Auto-simulation removes the need for clicking next over – sit back and relax as the cricket unfolds in front of your eyes.

Thats a very good point. When you look at current season performances for OD games, there is never anything of 57ish. I guess with a higher importance placed on 20/20 and the attacking part of the engine, this should change

Would live to see official licensing, CC finally has some competition in the gaming market this summer with Ashes Cricket 2009 due to release in early August.
Every year I read these forums, the creators nattering on to promise an improvement, but to be honest, I think they have taken steps back from the early ICC days.
Little variation, no licensing, little "reality". The game should obviously be modeled as the cricketing version of Football Manager. I would love to create a game like CC myself and model it around the record breaking football game, from training to media to shear depth of game play, Ashes build up "Ponting thinks Flintoff is passed it" etc....player problems on tours (EG Steve Harmison misses family!), pressure from the board if you are not winning ....maybe even player-club problems (not releasing them for the IPL) etc, and please the appointment of captains prior to a series. You get the jist.
I will be buying cricket captain as I always do, to get an endless one month gameplay out of it, I would really love to see simple things such as the WT20, Champions Trophy, IPL included...even trophy names such as the Gavaskar-Border trophy, Wisden Trophy....how such small things could enhance hours more gameplay!
Looking forward to it.

hey aus,
i have a query regarding the wide angle view you mentioned in the features list.the screenshot in the australian publisher's website looks identical to the view that we get in icc 2008.also i wonder how long the makers of icc are going to take lack of funds as an excuse for no radical features.for one i can say CC has the same or lesser budget than icc yet its coming up with so much of new stuff to keep us hooked..also i read on the australian publisher's website that the last version of icc had sold half a million copies in australia alone..its unfair to deny us buyers new features citing such a vague excuse..no ipl,no australian setup,no bowling speed display..the only significant thing that you seem to have cited is t20 gameplay improvement..seems our fears of icc09 being a database update are coming true..

I'm sure Chris would really appreciate comments like that, coming home after a 20-hour day trying to finalise the game, and pricing, and copyrights and deals with software suppliers, and trying to co-ordinate release dates, managing his own life, paying his bills, etc.
The release date is stated at June 25, how about you wait 5 days and find ou if its true. If its not, take it up with QV, or whoever is releasing the game.
The game is completed. The delays are because of the suppliers and developers, not the game makers.
And before anyone says its their job to maintain this forum, its not. It absolutely is not. A forum is somewhere for the community to discuss and trade opinions, it is not an hour-by-hour update venue on a game release. What other information do you want that hasn't already been provided?
Sure, it is frustrating not knowing the confirmation date of the release, but everyone has rules where they work. Everyone has policies that needs to be adhered to. There's no point whinging here that no-one cares or takes the time to read this or provide new details.
And Muhammed, without having a personal go at you, why would you be losing hope in Chris Child? Do you think he actually may not release the game?

The truth is guys, were getting a lot more information pre release then is normal in this day and age. Software developers are extremly tight lipped about their products in the weeks before release. The team here have been completly honest about the nature of ICC 2009, that it isn't the revolutionary game some of us hoped it would be, they haven't strung us along in hopes that our expectations would control our wallets.
From experience I know how game development goes on a shoestring budget, especially when you're dealing with a tight assed publisher! Game features get cut seemingly abritarily and its all you can do to patch the holes in the game so its worth releasing.
Yeah i'm dissapointed the aussie comp isn't included but I can live without it. Chris does seem to be listening to the fan base, look at the new stats system and the 20/20 scoring fix. Don't forget that ICC 2009 is likely to be cheap in comparison to other games, chris seems aware that recent releases havent been worthy of a full price tag, you get what you pay for. A half price game because it has half the features chris and those who work for him wanted to include.

Yeah I read that one too, but if you look it says the Software Developer is Empire Interactive, and well, we all know what happened there, so I'd say that'd be old news. I've checked about 10 sites which all say June 25 release, but then also say in the fineprint release date subject to change.
Like I said, the best thing to do is wait 4 days and see what happens.

I am disappointed with Chris because there were lots of features promised couple of months ago (like More domestic competitions etc) but the only NEW thing we are getting is a T20 worldcup just look at Cricket Coach 09 they are adding lots and lots of feature every year and they have even a lower budget than ICC 09 ,the only thing CC09 not seems to be getting right is the match engine and finally CC09 developer does listen to his forum members just look at their site you will know about it ,I just hate the strategy of releasing one FEATURE in an year.(I dont call all that other things a feature as I just realize that I can even get training improvement result by constantly loading up the EDITOR for ICC08)

If you'd bothered to read what was posted in this forum by Chris himself, Aus ands Sureshot earlier in the year you'd of realised that they never said more competitions this time round only that they would try but due to monetary and time restraints it would have to wait till next year.
Chris only had this forum opened after last years version had been released and said to expect most of the changes/requests to be implemented not in this one but the next year. Thats why I'm quite happy to wait for next years game as I feel it will be the one to see the more widespread improvements.

I don't remember any promises about new domestic competitions for 2009. The practicalities of these is quite tricky, some are easier, but information for some domestic competitions is very limited, and would be very difficult to implement.
I've not had much time of late to come on here and respond to your questions, work has been busy (I'm currently working at Sussex CCC, as some of you may be interested), so it's been left to Aus.
As has been said though, new features are all well and good, but there are so many limitations to consider for us, financial, time, practicality, etc. The gameplay has been improved significantly for 09. New features like being able to declare in the interval and change openers before the innings start are very useful and something we've introduced to improve the realism, because a captain has both of those at his disposal.
I think 09 will get a good reaction and we're all committed to taking the ICC series on to another level for 2010. I'm trying to find the right level between being open with you guys, and not revealing too much more than I can.

well, sorry sureshot and aus for being a tad too harsh on you people..calling icc09 just a database update is a mistake on my part...but my point is it hurts me when i see CC having lesser stature than ICC cross my beloved ICC series in terms of new features by leaps and bounds..be it stats,IPL,aussie domestic competition, duckworth lewis, different stadiums, player photos etc.we have got new features but then they seem to be a speck in the sand when you compare them to your competitor.Auto-sim is a CC replica, the 3-D graphics hasnt changed..only the interface seems to have changed.everything is relative and icc is slowly but surely falling behind.its a great game but slowly fading away in comparison to cricket coach.

the only thing CC09 not seems to be getting right is the match engine
I can only assume that the match engine isn't very important to you. Some of the comments here are approaching my-puppy-just-died levels - "it hurts me" that ICC is not progressing as much as is desirable? Remember, it's the buyer's decision. If you think Cricket Coach is better, then just play that instead and don't invest in ICC. I'm not blind to the fact that ICC's progress has been more incremental than revolutionary, but I incorporate that into my decision of when and which games to buy (or any software, for that matter). Hence why there was a seven year gap between my previous ICC "experience" (ICC 2000) and getting ICC 2008.
After playin cricket coach 07 and also ICC3 I will be buying the new ICC not the update of cricket coach.
ICC is actually good in comparison to that mistake of a game Cricket coach

The release date in Aus is supposed to be around the 8th of July, but I'm getting frustrated with the lack of response from the UK and Aus depends on that.

Even releasing it online isn't easy. Setting up a secure marketplace as well as sufficient bandwidth capabilities is a costly task in itself.
July 8 is a bit of a downer, that's Day 1 at Cardiff.
I guess these things aren't in anyone control, we just need to be patient and hope.
If it is the fact that they're struggling to get a distributor through the UK, here's hoping it doesn't just collapse.

Hey, just signed up but been lurking around for a few weeks checking for updates and stuff,, but thought id post my support and interest in the new game.
I bought the very first one all those many years ago and the 2nd but didn't buy another until the 05 ashes edition, and then the 08 game, didn't bother with 09 as it didn't appear there was that much more in terms of extras or improvements that made it worth wild.. so after missing a year im looking forward to playing his one when its becomes available.
Always enjoyed the CC games, highly addictive, very entertaining and just whats needed after a hard days work when your in the cricket mood.
Few of the things that really frustrated me with the last version were played getting England contracts that i wasn't selecting, having to pick one squad for both test/ODI while on tour and the lack england A and the small teams (Ireland/Netherlands for example)
Anyway.. sooner this comes out the better I've been dying fora good game a cricket all summer and really in the mood for play it.. I'll be buying a copy or download this year.

I think a step up in cricket games is required - and probably warranted.
In the last 4 years, perhaps starting in the UK with the 2005 ashes, but worldwide with the IPL and World T20 cricket is now massive.
When Pietersen gets paid more per minute of actually playing than Rooney or Ronaldo (which he did in the last IPL) then the boundaries have shifted.
I don't think that the ground rules for what makes a really great cricket game in either main field is truly established.
ICC and CC are improving text sims, butI think both have a way to go before they nail the experience
As for the more arcade experience. Codemasters and EA bring out graphically better, but ultimately unfulfilling re-hashes every so often. Never nailing the game mechanic. Though when they can't even graphically simulate cricket..not a hard sport to capture in this respect - then you know you're going to struggle with the gameplay...
I remember the first ball I bowled in the last Brian Lara. Brett Lee to Andrew Strauss...the ball bounced ankle high..and twice before getting to the keeper. the tone was set. driving ankle high bouncers. Or just sweeping everything regadless of line and length got you loads of runs, but your bowlers were like a bunch of 6 year olds trying to putt the shot...except maybe slower. Bloody awful
The first time I batted in EA cricket 2007. Hearing Richie say 6 times in an over "Straight to cover" Yeah I adapted and stepped outside off, used the 6 hit button, and merrily went on to score nearly 1500 runs at about 28 an over
(on hard..within hours of buying the game)...Thats EA..great game
I hold no more hope for this years arcade games
Cricket does deserve more. It has financially come of age. Chris (and Oli, and Dan and others) are pushing a rock up a hill trying to produce quality sims, but the money men seem not to have cottoned on to the massive market that is now available to them. Proper marketing in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh (hell even China..who are pouring massive money into cricket this year) would pay dividends, but this needs the backing of publishers with decent financial muscle to get the ball rolling.
These economies aren't the same as they were in the 80's and 90's, they are major world players now, with people earning major money, and cricket is a part of that.
I see a better future of cricket strategy, but until someone comes up with a decent mechanic for batting and bowling in the arcade side of things, I think our wonderful game will struggle.
With the world in recession, I can't see any major publishers taking a punt on cracking new markets in new ways for a few years :(
It IS time for a revolution. The serious sims will offer us an honest evolution this years I think(and that is as we should expect given the resources) and the arcade games will offer us the same badly balanced and poorly thought out tripe they always offer...EA and Codies polishing the turd as they always do in an ashes year. (sorry, but 12 years after EA Cricket '97, they have not come close to bettering it..and it wasn't as if it was that good in the first place)

But, if a company like Codemasters does take publishing rights of the game, think of the overheads they will chuck onto the end price. All of a sudden you're looking at 70-75 (AUS $) per game, as opposed to the 45-50 you're paying at the moment.
The bigger something is, the more expensive it becomes

The question is would they want to, and I highly doubt they'd be interested in such a massive project (which it would be turning ICC into a bigger, higher budget game) for such a small game.
Anyway, the online version will hopefully be out sometime next week. I can't hurry up the boxed version release date, but I suggest that anyone who wants to get the game get it online, it is much quicker and is very easy; all you need is a credit card or PayPal account (if you don't have one, ask mum or dad).

Hi buddy, do you know if the patch being released to fix the player database errors will be out before the boxed version? In all honesty the database errors on this game ruin a rather superb and addictive game. For example anyone who follows world cricket knows Imran Nazir of pakistan is a swashbuckling opener, he always has been during his entire career yet for some reason in these games hes a middle order batsmen, completely nullifying his impact in this game. Things like this need to be patched asap in order for the consumers to enjoy their purchase. Any help on this would be much appreciated. Thanks.

If you had to format your hard drive, you would have to re-install the game. You have two installs, if you install it on another computer, then there might be an issue with a third installation, as some have found with the patch problems. But, as long as your keep your purchase reference number and license holder name (which is an e-mail address), there shouldn't be any problems in being able to add another install to your account. Obviously with a format of the hard drive, you would lose save games if you hadn't backed them up, previously.

woah £13.77 on amazon uk.
I thought the downloads would have been much cheaper as theres no box to print, disc to burn as shipping/distribution costs... ummm makes you feel you've been had you know?

The recommended retail price is £19.99 and we've been offering it at 10% off. We don't have any control over the prices that shops set it at, so they often undercut the RRP. There's not much we can do about that. If we offer it at significantly less than RRP the shops complain, so we can't win really.

The main page on the Childish Things website states the boxed version is 9.13? For those that downloaded it, will we be able to update 9.12 via the 'Internet Game' option? Assuming there are changes in 9.13..

9.13 is just the same is 9.12, but to determine between online bought and store bought.

We can't use the same build for boxed and digital download so they are only different from a technical point of view. CD has SecuRom, etc, whereas digital download has Softwrap.
The games are identical, they are just slightly different in technical terms, which is caused by one being on a CD and the other a digital download.

Good news for Cricket Captain fans:
We're reducing the price of International Cricket Captain 2009 to £15.99. Some shops are selling at this price, so we thought we'd extend this to the download community. We've also got older versions of the game available for reduced prices. You can now re-live the 2005 Ashes for £5.
It's been noted that the shops/on-line retailers have been selling at quite a lower price than our download version. We can't control what price shops/on-line retailers sell it for, only set a RRP, which is £19.99. We've reduced the price of the download version so that you don't feel like you're losing out to those who buy the CD version.
Chris has spent quite a bit of time updating the prices of the older versions. I know quite a few people still enjoy these games, now you can grab them for a very reasonable price.
If you've got any feedback on this, we'd love to know it.
:)

One bit of feedback, Sureshot, its great that you've reduced the price of ICC09, but surely you should also reduce the price of ICC08 so it isn't £2 more than the current version :p

Maybe its an intentional marketing scheme?
"Why buy ICC08, when you can ICC09 for a cheaper price?":D
