This is a discussion thread for a database editor for the game. Both people who want the editor and the people who dont want the editor can post their reasons for their approval or disapproval of the idea.

Nice thread indeed.
I would go for the limited editor which can be used to create domestic competitions and transferring of players along with the ability to edit stats any time in the game.

I'd like to be able to create a league with a specified number of teams. The AI would then provide a pool of players and each team would take turns at choosing a player, much like the draft in the NFL.
New youth players would be generated at the end of each season and there would be a draft system where teams choose them according to their order of finishing (bottom team first, top team last).
Then what they call a supplementary draft where you can pick up any players left over from the youth draft or who have ended contracts with other teams. International players could be in this part.
Probably asking way too much! :D

I want to see an editor where you can edit players averages so that you can update your game with the latest stats, be able to create new players and the ability to change someone from a batsmen to a bowler etc!

I'd like an editor which allowed me to create competitions, both internationally and domestic. Maybe a calender type application could be created to show when teams/countries are available!
I'd also like a player editor to both, make players accurately correct, and secondly, to make sure teams are correct. I'd also like to have the ability to create players!
Anyone think that the reason behind Childish Things not wanting such an editor is because generally each game is usually a roster update, with maybe something slightly differnt? I'm not trying to be glib, or take a personal pop, but look at the "Ashes," series in ICC, just roster updates! For 17.99. I've already said to Sureshot, that if an editor isn't released i'd be disappointed but it wouldnt stop me buying the game! But as a fan, and someone who has bought every game since ICC 2002, i think, i think we deserve an editor, seeing as we've been asking for one for years!

I want an editor mainly because i wanna create my own league. We should be able to create tournaments for our own created leagues and also select the chances for generating a super regen.(If we set it at 5% we should get a super regen every 10 seasons or so and we should get a super regen every two years if we set the option to 85%). We should be able to create and edit any squad in the game. We should be able to create the IPL or the Stanford Tornament by ourselves if what i said is possible. And here is the sweet part : No licensing Issues For Childishthings ! So Chris, I have not requested stats editing, ability editing and stuff and you wont have to make the IPL yourself if you give us fans what I have asked. Now tell me if this would be possible. Cheers !!!

That is exactly why we need an editor in game. When one was created for an earlier version, look at the amount of player content built.
Lots of us still have ICC2 on our PC's, largely because we're free to edit it and play the game as we see fit.
We don't take kindly to being told "Oh but you can't"
You ask for suggestions, one CLEAR suggestion is the addition of an editor.
If you ignore it, you truly are taking on the monniker of those that simply want to sell database updates year in, year out.

And simply caving in to your demands would be ignoring those who wish there to be no editor or a limited one. I wouldn't want an editor where people are given the chance to simply edit everything they want.

Well then I suggest you read my previous post mate. I did not want to change even a single ability related thing. Just the tournaments and stuff.

I can't see any way that there would be some sort of tournament editor - that would take ages to program I'd imagine (not that I'm an expert!).
More realistically, a player editor MUST be possible - how else do the players get into the database in the first place?!
Echoing the thoughts of others, it would be excellent if you could edit the game yourself, but to play online, you would have to use the original data.

Why are guys like Themer trying to ruin our thoughts here. An editor would be great for most people, ok if you don't want one, simply don't use it. Don't deny people like myself and others the chance to get one!

This is a thread for both people who want an editor and why and for those who don't want one and their reasons why. Im not ruining your thoughts simply expressing my view. The reason I don't want an editor where people can see hidden stats is because it would mean people like myself would be up against people online who know these hidden stats giving them an unfair advantage. Im all for an editor where rosters can be updated and subtle changes such as changing the odd Database issues such as Tim Bresnan being an allrounder.

Simple to do, for online use, only use a custom roster provided by Childish Things.

The fact that the databse errors thread is the 2nd most active thread in this forum emphasizes my point for having a database editor. Not to mention there are also a fair number of posts in the feature requests thread asking for an editor. I read somewhere that the main reason for the existence of this forum is to hear out and implement the requests of the fans. So...

A lot of those database errors should be fixed in the upcoming roster update.

And thats the best answer we get? I suppose that next roster update will be ICC 2009? Seriously...

yeh it has to be new game because current game is difficult to update for rosters.

The idea of the forum is to listen to the requests of those who buy the game. Its completely up to them whether they should implement these ideas or not.
Also an update is in the offing soon which fixes many of these errors.

Correct. We don't have a right to demand anything except a bug free game.
We can however make suggestions, but whether or not the developers see these as good, bad or impractical is their decision.

No, as I said in my post above yours, there will be a roster update shortly. I can't say when that will happen as I haven't been directly involved with it. Though I tried to, but my computer wasn't having any of it....
These forums are to get your opinions on the game, on ideas for the game, etc. They aren't here to get every single idea implemented. :)

For me its the only argument against it is the people who play the game online about hidden stats!
C'mon seriously how many of you play online games where custom databases are allowed online e.g. football manager for example!
These rosters used are the rosters that are supplied officially by the game to be used!
The editor should be included, I dont want it for editing player to make them super human good because it defeats the point of the game, but I do want to update the game so I can have the latest statistics, change players roles, nationalities etc!

i think an editor is a must for the next version. I can see where people are coming from but surely chris can make it so that you can only use the original database in online games?
