It is with pleasure that we can announce that from Wednesday 1st of July the download version will be available from our site to buy and trial. We are still unsure of a date for the CD version, we are awaiting news from our publishers and will reveal those dates when we can.

:)

Update (1st July): Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances, the release has been delayed to the 2nd of July. We are just making sure everything is perfect before release so things go off smoothly.

I believe screenshots for the site are being done/sorted by our techie man. The site is set to be updated in the not to distant future. For those of you on Facebook, I have created a new page, and that has some screenshots in. More will be added by me tomorrow.

Looked at the screenshots and had de ja vu!
Only thing which has been changed is at the toss theres not a seperate section for averages!
After all this waiting we've recieved an update. I have bought them all since 2002 and I will NOT be buying this one nor will I buy another untill I actualy see worthwhile changes instead of a couple of very weak and minimal changes!
VERY DISAPPOINTED.

Don't you think you're being a little harsh? You're judging the game based on a few screenshots. Maybe you should play it for a few days and see if you notice a difference before going and indicating your views on it.

ICC has never been a graphical game, like what EA might bring out or what not, so you can't judge it based on graphics and images. Play it first, then comment on the gameplay

aus5892
06-29-2009, 12:45 AM
The graphics look the same, yes, but as you can see the match screen is much improved and the other features are not ones you can really take screenshots of.

06-29-2009, 01:29 AM
Who plays ICC for the graphics anyway? They were crap for the first game lol

cricket is all about stat crunching and this game has that in abundance, but bring on ICC 2010!

It will indeed be disappointing if the interfaces are not improved and do not have the requested additons. But again, we hope that 2010, will bring out a very good version with lots of new additions. Atleast the game is still living!!

i buy ICC not because of graphics but because of addictivity. im 15 and i was first introduced to this game by friend 2 years ago, and since then i cant get enough of it (and i have got some of my other friends hooked on it too). Personally i feel that ICC is just set out in a much neater fashion than the EA games and the Ricky Ponting games for example.

Agree with you there. The stat part of the game needs the improvement.

I think that the developers need to start thinking about ICC 2010 now so they can work on it through the winter making it ready for the start of the 2010 season. This would mean 9 months on making a world class game...

I quite like the graphics. i really don't see what the problem is, they are better than the orignal 2D versions of the past.

Scritty
06-29-2009, 11:28 PM
I also agree. I rarely watch the graphics. I preferred the old ones *the sprites) because they allowed for mire use of imagination. But overall...who really cares ?

On the cosmetic front..yes a little tidying would be nice.
New gameplay features (that add depth)
More stats (and record keeping..so you can set and attempt targets over a long term)

and maybe keeing the competitions and formats up to date (T20 and such)

But the depth and stats are the ones I'm most keen to see.

Graphics ? Nah not bothered. Reviewers have always had a "thing" for graphics. They should get over it :)

The big question is, what time will it be released, and what time zone lol?

If its likes 9am in England, then we down under won't get it till like 10pm tomorrow night.

Also, the website hasn't exactly updated itself to reflect the release......

Just hearing the news that Michael Vaughan has retired - I wonder if there's any chance of putting in a last minute change to the database to remove him as I have a horrible feeling he'll get selected by England in the game and that will get really annoying!

Definitely too late to remove him from the game. However, I never noticed the England AI selecting him.

A heads up for tomorrow. Having spoken with Chris, things may take a while to get going. Now, I feel it's best to be honest here and let you know the situation, than to leave you in limbo. I can't give time frames for tomorrow, that would be impossible. Rest assured we will be working as hard as possible to get you playing ICC 2009. :)

06-30-2009, 09:18 PM
So ICC '09 is effectively an update as there are no real changes ?
It all seems a bit of a kop out to me as i would have liked to see players stats and such. But it all seems rushed to me and that they should have missed out '09 and made a much improved 2010 version instead.

Sureshot
06-30-2009, 09:24 PM
We've got new features (Historic Ashes scenarios, T20 World Cup, changed interface, ability to declare in intervals, change openers before innings, extra year of stats recorded) and improved gameplay.

Many people will say it is just an update, but then do you expect us to re-build the game each year? Because no one else in the sports management market does. It's always bemused me a little how we quite often get dubbed as producing updates.

All I can say is, that I've enjoyed the time I've spent on 2009 and I think many others will too.

Piotr

There's a button on the homepage that you press to download it. It's all very simple. You can play the trial version and then pay to upgrade and get a license key as well. Not sure about the space, but it's not a massive game like Football Manager etc.

Haha wow that is dedication right there, I would imagine that since Phil Hughes is supposed to be the face of the game he may actually be a batsman (not a keeper) that averages higher than 22 :O

Has anybody got any ideas as to when it will be available? Someone said possibly 3 hours from now! That scares me, but I will just wait and see.

It got caned in a review but idc I love this game and have played it since the original. I just wish they'd put the right click on mouse to shuffle tabs on match screens (etc) back AND show entire bowling figures, not just wickets taken (in the form screen). They could also show a bowler's strengths like line and length, aggressive et al to give more relevance to the bowling training.

ALSO - they should install career strike rates of batsmen and bowlers. It would be hell easy, especially for youth players as it would just be a storage of overall data, this would surely be an EXCELLENT and easy addition. Maybe next time.

And all-time records would be rad, AND records for One day games like partnerships and what-not.

Not much to ask :D

I really do think they should address these things though, what do you think?

When we are good to go the website is ready to be re-done, so if you get a bit of down time (not sure on this as I don't deal with it, but there might be some) that will be the reason and probably the best sign for a release.

I'm trying to keep you all updated on what's gone on so far. We are still waiting for a bit of technical stuff, I would presume we are looking at another 3 hours or so. Don't quote me on that, but I'd rather tell you what I'm thinking rather than nothing at all.

Looking forward to the release, been playing ICC since it first came out and have spent many days / months (!) captaining England with mixed success. My last game on ICC 2008 was lost during the tour of the West Indies after i'd won all 7 winter tests in India and the Windies.

JUst recieved an email by the Cricket Captain team which is as follows;
"At the moment, I can't give a time, as we have a couple of things to sort out. I think (this isn't a definite time) it will be about 5pm."

So this is the time when the online and trial version should be released.

I believe that for the many people that have waited most of the day (no matter where in the world) for the release of the demo and online version of Cricket Captain 2009 ashes edition deserve answers. I.E why is there such a hold up? A time for release? When will a box version be availible?.....As patient fans, i believe that we need some infomation to stop this lingering wait! So will someone from the Cricket Captain team explain please.

But if the game is released say at 5:00pm UK time and you install the demo then. Then you would only get a day and a bit trial instead of 2. Moreover last years demo was released at 11:30am UK time and i can't imagine why they would choose to release the game later than last year's without a reason.

Good evening to you all, I was wondering if it would hurt Childish Things, to give us a definite Yes or No if the game is coming out today, as some of us have been waiting since early morning.

Well, kinda serves most people right.
At the end of the day, its not an elixir potion that will grant you eternal life....its just a cricket game.

It amazes me the lack of respect given to the production team by some members here. I don't think even 10% of the people comprehend what needs to be done to set up a marketplace to release the game in. And then there's more to work on in terms of licensing and trialling and the like.

As much as I want to play the new game too, nothing in life comes easy, you gotta be patient. And this is no different. I honestly hope it doesn't get released until later than tomorrow night (Friday Morning for us) just so you guys can suffer in your own immaturity for a bit longer.

So how about we all stop acting like our lives are literally hanging on the release and just go about your normal life until the game is released. Play 08 to kill time. I read somewhere someone was saying "I can't eat, sleep or drink". You got to be kidding me. Grow up.

But surely we deserve to kno if it is even coming out today and if so what time, so that people don't have to sit and wait hoping for it.

I'm sure you can do something else than sit and wait hoping for it.
If you really wanna get the best out of your Trial, download it at 1201am. But it doesn't make sense if you're gonna buy the game anyway.

Lol its too true.
I've already consigned myself to wait a week before I download (mainly cuz I'll be on holidays until next Friday), but it looks like a lotta people are gonna have trouble downloading it, and as usual they won't understand why and then come on and whinge about it and have a go at the production team as they have been doing for the last 3 weeks.

I just hope those who have whinged the most have the most difficulty downloading the game. Karma is a powerful form of matter and I really hope it kicks in here.

At the end of the day, just about all of the people who have whinged will download and buy the game and spend countless hours playing it (as will I), so what's an extra 24 hours gonna do to impact on your life?

come on dont whinge and snarl around at others.everybody is entitled to their opinion on the makers.how did it make sense not to have a bit of cushion time for unforeseen issues before release..people have been waiting atleast(so have you) if not "stopped eating, drinking, sleeping" as somebody mentioned....people have taken shots at the management not because expensive features like new cricket leagues, new engine were not introduced but because "simple things" like runs conceded by bowler and strike rates were not included..we hve been crying hoarse over simple things to make the game better but for some reason features of no relevance have come up..what r u going to do with autoplay????watch cricket on tv instead...and training log??well icc makers are paradoxing themselves with this as it takes out the guessing element from whether the player is improving and guessing element is the reason there is no editor and rightly so...the result of this shall be a better game in 2010 with RADICAL improvement not COSMETIC changes..and take it as constructive cricticism rather than whingeing...dedicated icc lovers(me too) are going to buy the game anyways but then we would like to see a bit more value for money.

hey guys i just have a sort of curiosity in my mind regarding why the makers are so reluctant to part with information on the game.it seems they are trying to hide things..
1.earlier aus5892 had mentioned that champions league was there in the game and then edited it out.it was only when somebody swore that he had seen it did aus confess that it had been edited..why didnt he post in the forum regarding that?
2.yesterday when there was a problem and they knew throughout, why were they refusing to divulge the nature of the problem?was good strategy though.highest no of users ever on the website was 151 yesterday close to 5 pm.

3.also why did we come to see screenies here only after they came on australian publisher's website..surely developers have more of access to the game than the publishers

i appreciate the fact that they are busy and trying to keep us as aware of the happenings as possible but these facts do boggle my mind..please do not take it the wrong way..just asking out of curiosity

1. Yes I did say that I made a mistake. The Champions League is not in the game.

2. The nature of the problem is irrelevant. It does not affect any of you, and to blame the delay on anyone or any company in particular would be unfair. We will keep you as updated as possible but there is certain information. You can rest assured that we are not delaying the game for no reason.

3. The publishers have the right to publish information on the game, and it is in fact generally their right to decide what can and cannot be released.

The reason we set the release date of July 1st is because we had people complaining that there was no set date. Why would we set the release date back for things we can't see ahead?

In the end, the game will come out when it comes out. Frankly, I understand that it can be frustrating but sitting on here complaining is not going to change anything. You have to understand that the bulk of this game has been made by a team of about 5 people.

Cricket Coach was rushed to release and have a look at what's happened with them. They had to take off the game within 24 hours because of excessive bugs, and release a new version almost immediately. The best thing to do is to wait an extra day so the game is actually ready.

Guys, we're asking you to please be patient. There are still a few issues that need to be ironed out with the installer before we can release the game.

Complaints solve nothing, and sitting here waiting for the game isn't going to make it come any faster. Rushing the game to release only creates more problems. When it is ready for release, it'll be up.

Hmmm...did you post this in another thread?

FYI....I wasn't having a go at people's opinions, everyone is entitled to their own, and I'm sure there are people out there who don't appreciate what I say. I just don't think its fair for people to criticise the whole process. You gotta believe as a business they're doing the best they can for their customers, and sometimes things pop up which are out of your control. You just have to accept it and cop it on the chin.

the_trademarc

Exactly what I'm getting at.

I'd rather it be delayed a week and have all problems solved than have the game today and be clustered with bugs and inaccurate detail.

i bet this was all fake, so we get happy over nothing. ICC 2009 isn't coming out in the next 2 months. there hardly been a update by the makers. how hard is it to release a bloody game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Extremely hard indeed. ANy software development on this scale is a massively difficult undertaking.

Suprised this wasn't common knowledge ?

It's the "last minute "stuff that really grinds as well. The basic code is fine, the code for network play is stable, the manual is written, then you find something daft like....

The online delivery and verification system (which you don't own or control) doesn't like a filename (yes this happens).

The install packaging (WISE or whatever ICC use) fails to work properly.

You try and download the game yourself from a different location (to test it workd) and your server provider has nerfed up for the night.

It all happens. Blimey even Blizzard with their 1.4 Billion US$ a year from WoW subscriptions and hundreds of staff often get glitches with well established code.

It happens.

It would be a sign of maturity on your part to live graciously with it.

Again another promise, and another let down.

Very dissapointing and poor, really don't see what the problem should be, its not like this is the first launch, it's just a updated version of the last few years. They should know how long it takes to upload th website and download!

Anyone who disagrees with this?

In reply to your comment, its not about building my own game and doing it better, its about working well as a company, doing the correct things to meets deadlines!

In my line of work I can't afford to be late on deadlines, so I plan well, which includes unforeseen circumstances!

The way they are going about it, it seems that little planning has been put into place!

I disagree with it. Where there is technology involved, no amount of planning or allowing time for delays can fully prepare any team for release.

Look at Football Manager. Every year, they stick to their release deadline, but every year, they have to release a release-day patch, or activation codes etc do not work. And that is a massive team.

This is a small team and they would rather release something worthwhile than something that fails to meet the high expectations of the fans.

They are doing totally the right thing. It's not like they have taken our money and not delivered. They owe us NOTHING.

Nice to know you are perfect. If only the whole world were blessed with your amazing planning skills. Unfortunately us mere mortals have occasions (and I assume this is one of them) where an unexpected situation has occurred at the worst possible time, and one I assume is totally outside their control. Perhaps you should hand in a resume?

The mere fact that they're able to release the game should be commended as the Publishers went bust on them and they've had to work behind the scenes to secure the rights and the like.

Personally, I think your all a bit soft!

I didn't once say im perfect, or did I say that they owe us anything.

My point is, which you are all missing, the fact that they said a release date, and then missed it, due to good reason i'm sure.
But then the question arises why select a start date knowing your going to miss it?

To the next point of me be critical, if no one was things would just stay the same and nothing or no-one would improve or progress!!

I'm expecting a better response than just, well you try if your so good!!

M.Di Venuto
07-02-2009, 11:22 AM
Mate as has been suggested by me and others I'm sure they didn't miss the release date on purpose. I'd like to hear your conspiracy theory on why they would set a release date and miss it on purpose?

I agree, being critical is good. Certainly it promotes efficiency as Childish Things learn another thing we expect of them. Being on time. However being critical without understanding the situation? Bit hard on them I think. And no I dont think they owe it to us to explain the situation.

Themer

They selected a release date because people kepy pestering for an exact date. And they didn't just select a date which they knew they wouldn't meet last minute problems have caused the delay.

Let me ask you, what sort of business are you in? Or are you just making stuff up cuz you can and you know no-one can pull you up on it? Do you cater for having a stroke? A car accident? A family member passing away? I didn't think so. So you don't plan for unforeseen circumstances.

At the end of the day, you will buy the game, I will, and everyone on here will, so it doesn't matter when it will come out.

And if you want to pay 40-50 pounds for the game, then I'm sure Chris and the production team will enjoy the additional funds in their budget, which they can put towards planning.

We never planned to miss the release date, and of course the circumstance was unforeseen, certainly had no idea it would take the time it did. Which is why we didn't give a time for the release, that was our leeway.

We didn't set the release date knowing this issue would evolve like it did. We're not stupid.

A release date is essentially a promise, a date by which the game is set for release, and thus people make plans and decisions around it. Therefore by not releasing the game on the date of the release date set by your company, you have reneged on that. I am not questioning the reasoning, I understand and concede that there is probably a lot going on, however it is not good planning to set a date that is optimistic at best.

Whilst it is extremely disappointing, yet understandable, there has been a key and clear lack of accountability in the sense that no real explanation has been given, nor apology presented. Simply saying "last minute tech difficulties" shows no real compassion for the people you have let down, who are ESSENTIALLY the people keeping you in business. Don't blur this line too often, it is a simple premise of good marketing. Keep the customer happy at all times possible, and when you let them down, do EVERYTHING you can in order to minimise the harm/discomfort/disappointment. Don't whine about "how hard things are", people who just want to play the game are not interested in this, they just want to know that the company cares about the fact they didn't deliver, care about the people they let down and are doing absolutely everything that is within their power to rectify it ASAP. I've been on a few pages of a few forums thus far and see a distinct lack of these qualities.

Saying things like "come down and fix it for us" is absurd, childish and absolutely useless customer service that furthers the disappointment, disenchantment and disharmony already caused. Like I said, these people you are mocking by saying such things are the very people who keep you in business. With the failure of Empire Interactive you and the remainder of the company should be VERY wary and attentive to this fact.

I've purchased every version of this game since the very first and therefore have a right to be disappointed as it has been a part of my life for more than a decade.

Yea i do dissagree, your last couple of posts have just been moronic. Yes you are right when you say that there are deadlines that must be met but this was not a deadline. Must people on the forum have pressured the good blokes at childish things for a release date, so they gave us one, but because we pressured them it was inaccurate and now we are getting angry. How angry would you be if they released a game like the way rockingham software released there game. Although Cricket Coach 09 is a decent game you can't go 5 minutes without it crashing, i would take a two day wait with a minimal bug filled game than a game that came on the 1st but so dodgy you wont even want to play it. Stop being so immature and just be patient instead of constantly bitching

It's not people expecting things when they want it, it's people who were told that the game would be released 1/7/09, which it failed to do, being (extremely fairly) disappointed and rightfully seeking answers. This is pretty much the point of forums. To seek information and give an opinion. This is a company we are talking about here, customer is king and people who are (strangley, almost condescendingly and blindly) standing in for the company have blurred the lines of what a customer has the right to expect.

I love ICC, I love the fact that Childish Things have taken over and are continuing to seek to produce and improve this game, but don't insult me by telling me I am impatient and obnoxious for seeking empathy from the company and sufficient information for the fact that the company failed to deliver on a promise they themselves set. That is just absurd and misguided.

I don't want it gift wrapped and you wouldn't have the power or capacity to have that arranged in any case.

It's interesting that you essentially called my post moronic and stupid, but were not able to build a sound reason to rebut any of the information I put on there.

I am not having a go at the company, I just want them to show a little more professionalism when dealing with customers (i.e. don't say the things mentioned above like a sooky child).

If you are a fan and not a representative of the company, I wouldn't expect for you to explain any of the reasoning behind this failure, that is not your business nor your job and henceforth I was not seeking such information from you.

And to clarify this point, which a lot of people seem to smugly insist on emphasising, you and all the others are no better or real a fan of the game simply by being passive and trying to suck up to the administrators by showing exaggerated and misappropriated sympathy.

You are entitled to ask questions and we have answered them. If I was to tell you the reason we are having technical difficulties, it would not change that we are having them, nor would it speed up the release. All it would seek to do was to create a scapegoat for the problems, which would solve nothing and create more problems.

We have provided every explanation necessary and possible, and we are still here copping abuse from all directions.

Cricket Captain 2009 is not the first game to be delayed, nor will it be the last. The fact that we even have a forum that we are checking (two of us no less) at a time like this is quite rare for a game so close to release.

Now obviously it is Sureshot and my job to do this, and we seek no pat on the back for doing it. All we ask for is some patience and some understanding. It is not good for us to have to delay the game when a date is set, but when things come up and ruin that date, there is nothing we can do about it and it is preferable to releasing a game that doesn't work.
