Hi, been playing Cricket Captain since 1999 the english world cup year version. This is my first post even though i read the forum posts every so often.
Never posted before but thought i would give my views because the series really doesnt seem to have improved since then (I know the game wasnt made for a few seasons but still).
1) Im old school and still prefer the last 2d version of the game 2006 ashes addition. Havent bought the new ones because the 3d annoys me to much. Im not saying go back because alot of people like it and thats why they buy the game. So maybe in future versions we could have the option of 3d or for old schoolies like me classic 2d?
2) Improved county/first class game. Still cant believe that you can only have 1 overseas player a season regardless of injuries or poor form. This is a must improvement for realism and gameplay.
3) Even if it is not possible to have another first class system or 1 for each country can we please have the ability to have computer ai generated overseas first class seasons? Instead of every player on the game playing at least 6 first classes games a season? Is it squad rotation or 35 a side?
I would like to see individual scorecards for overseas competitions to asses overseas players for domestic and international purposes.
4) IPL competition. Has had a massive effect on real life global cricket so is a must in the game. Doesnt have to be called IPL just get the competition in the game somehow.
5) International retirements. Why can i still force Marcus Trescothick into my england team when in real life he wont go near the team?
6) The ability to move first class teams or quit my first class job when im offered the england job. Also why can i only manage 1 national team? Is that what happens in real life? No.
7) More international competitions and international matches to mirror the icc international calendar.
8) Improvement with international squads, why can you still only pick one international squad for all forms of the game on overseas tours? I would like the option to pick a squad for tests, odi's and T20's. Also i would like the option of being able to pick between 12 and 17 players for certains series like in real life not regimented numbers like the current game lets you pick.
Also the ability to change my squad through a series if the current players are underperforming or theres an injury. This would make a massive difference to the realism of the game.
Right thats my rant over, i think these could easily be implemented to improve general gameplay and dont seem to be massive changes either. Let me know what you think.

Sackings and resignation would be a good idea for both domestic and international cricket.
Jobs screen where all available jobs are listed and can also see who's their coaches; and job security, displaying how close you are to losing your job.
IPL:Obvious decision.I want it included, everyone wants it included.
World Cricket Leagues:If you haven't heard of it.It's a league system which non-test nations play in and can qualify for world cup qualifiers and try and gain ODI status from it until the next qualifier. All teams could be playable unless they just do WCL 1-3.
Test Status:I think in the game a test nation should be allowed to lose it's test status if their results are getting bad against other test nations and even non-test nations.Or a non-test nation could get test status or gain it back if they are getting good results against test nations and/or in big tournaments (like reaching the super 8 at world cup).
Hong Cricket Sixes:Just for a bit of fun.Same rules as in real life.In game you will be only allowed to select players who aren't in the proper national team squad. All teams playable.
Transfers:You will be allowed to transfer players throughout the season and are allowed to sign players specifically for a tournament (and 1 overseas player specifically for a tournament or you can just use 1 for all tournaments).
Different squads:You are allowed to save a twenty20 squad, a one dayer squad and a firts class squad so if you just finished playing a twenty20 and your next match is a first class game then you just load up your first class squad rather than mixing and matching players to get your desired team.
I agree with international retirement as well.
Do you like my ideas?
Some good suggestions on this forum. Some of mine are already here but this is what I would like. I bought 2009 and way, way too similar to the last one. I still thin 2006 is the pick of them. I have played these games from the 90's onwards.
* 3D engine and graphics are rubbish. I no longer look at 4's or 6's Fix it! 3D can work but this engine is poor, animations don't work. Just look at a TV broadcast - render that - and allow the user to chance 'camera' angles to match the common broadcast angles. What you have now isn't fluent or natural and it looks terrible. I can't tell where the ball has gone half the time. And the players mill around like wooducks.
* Domestic for Australia required (and other countries)
* IPL - lack of IPL makes the series feel 'asleep at the wheel'
* Remember players who retire and keep their stats!
* Allow me to play Netherlands and other countries if I want a real challenge!
* Allow me to create a team if I wish
* Women's cricket. Needs to be here! Mock all you want but I love women's cricket.
* My coaching career can't go on forever - cap it at 40 years and give me a rank at the end (e.g. and something to try and beat - like 'Pirates')
* Allow easy export of stats to excel / .csv
* Include 'dynamic' mode where there are other issues to deal with (bad player behaviour, morale, players quitting for personal reasons mid-season, suspensions, fire on the pitch!!! (e.g. confrontations, sledging, behaviour issues that I must manage), media interviews for the coach, safety concerns about a tour, streakers!!! Give it some life !!!
* Money - why can't I control that and pay players what they are worth
* The selectors - why can't I fire them if they pick duds for me! I would like to fight with them.
* Why can't I be 'sacked' if I'm a rubbish coach? I'd like to answer to someone!
* Where are the talent scouts? I want to feel I achieved something when I get a young player in who performs - not blind chance.
* Better A1 - opposition must 'crank up' their batting in the last over etc
* Let me review older overs - I should be able to watch a reply of the whole match if I want!
* Let me replay a 'highlights' reel and include what I want (eg 4's and/or 6's for batting and wickets and/or chances for bowling).
* Instead of making players vanish at 37 / 38 - let me talk to them! I want to be able to persuade some of my champs to stick around, even if they're on the downhill slide. Likewise, I would like to tell some of the 36 year olds that it's time to hang up the baggy green. At least let me know if/when players want to retire from cricket or just different forms of it.
* Let players retire from one form but play another
* In dynamic mode, I want feedback from the players ... if I drop one for a test let him come to me and ask why ... if I promote one up the order let him thank me for the chance - create the illusion! Why did I only give XYZ one turn at being captain?
* Let me visit the boys after the game and celebrate with them if I want - or lecture them about their crap performance!!!
* Don't like the 2009 interface - space used to be 'over by over' now the game keeps rolling until something happens
* Run rate is more important than this game thinks - for ODis it's a big selection yet the game doesn't think the stat is important. It is! I don't want Geoff Boycott in my 20/20 team even if he has a good average !!!
* Punish me for stupid choices! I don't want to pull off a miracle victory if I coach / captain well but pick the weakest links.
* Different stadiums / ovals - they just all look the same!
Thanks!
Dave

Hi all,
Long time player, only just joined.
Recently (2 years ago) I was given a mac for my birthday. I would LOVE to say Mac compatibility in future versions. It wouldn't change anything for the PC users, and would expand the target audience for the game. At this point, to run ICC 2009 I had to upgrade my OS, partition my hard drive, buy windows and run boot camp. That cost around 400 bucks to do, and the game didnt end up working on my laptop anyway!
So I have 3 wishes for ICC 2010:
- MAC compatibility
- Laptop compatibility
- Australian domestic teams

how about when you are selecting a squad and you are struggling to find one of the players you want, there should be a search engine where you type in the name and the player you want shows up.

You could make a possible 'Hall of Fame' browsable in that way as well, if it were to be implemented.

I really agree here. It might be 3d, but the 2d had anatomically realistic players and decent ball physics. The 3D, with the batsman constantly bowled playing some sort of crouchy coverdrive miles away from where the ball is; is irksome.
In one game I had every player in an innings caught at short square leg. Every flipping player. All off seamers as well. One catch off a seamer at square leg in a whole 5 match test series is about average - not the whole team out.
* IPL - lack of IPL makes the series feel 'asleep at the wheel'
Everyone wants it. I find the 20/20 in the game really dull. Max or one below max aggression. click click click..yawn yawn yawn "It's a SIX!!!! "So what, another will be along in five minutes. Everyone wants it though, so It probably should be included
* Remember players who retire and keep their stats!
Too right. Stats and beating your best, in as many little niche records as possible is a MAJOR reason many will play a text sports sim. THis area needs a huge overhaul
* Women's cricket. Needs to be here! Mock all you want but I love women's cricket.
It's a fully professional sport in the UK. It does indeed need to be included. (After all , if your English it's great, we've won everything)
* My coaching career can't go on forever - cap it at 40 years and give me a rank at the end (e.g. and something to try and beat - like 'Pirates')
Please DONT do this. I am in 2278 in ICC2002. Sure have a score at 40 years that is a rankable measure, but PLEASE let us carry on afterwards. Don't deliberatley hobble the game and take out another major plus.
* Allow easy export of stats to excel / .csv
Nice idea
* Money - why can't I control that and pay players what they are worth
You mean stop board interventions if you over offer? That's the only area that I can think of. Not sure what you mean here. In most respects you already can. End of the day the Board pays everyones wages and won't let you overpay (just like real life - and every sport I've ever heard of) and players can leave or not join on the first place if you don't offer enough (just like real life - eh Kabir Ali for instance)
* The selectors - why can't I fire them if they pick duds for me! I would like to fight with them.
What game are you playing? Who picks your team for you? I always pick my own. Are you sure this is an ICC thing i've never found - Is there a game mode where you can't pick your team? I always pick my team nationaly and internationally. I'm confused.
* Why can't I be 'sacked' if I'm a rubbish coach? I'd like to answer to someone!
I agree with this, although a "sack free" mode as well would be nice.
* Where are the talent scouts? I want to feel I achieved something when I get a young player in who performs - not blind chance.
This area could do with a tweak. Though second team performances I find are an excellent guide (as in real life)
* Better A1 - opposition must 'crank up' their batting in the last over etc
Absolutely. I have games where a top order batsman is batting with tail ender - say three wickets in hand. 12 needed off last over, and the batsman won't take a run off the first four balls, taps a single off the fifth. THis has been the case since the original ICC
* Let me review older overs - I should be able to watch a reply of the whole match if I want!
Great idea
* Let me replay a 'highlights' reel and include what I want (eg 4's and/or 6's for batting and wickets and/or chances for bowling).
Similar to above, but equally good.
Yes. In every version of the game since 2002 I've had Graeme Hick retire in the first or at most second season. (and I sim hundreds of games). In real life he went on 7 more years (and almost 7200 more FC runs at over 40)
* Don't like the 2009 interface - space used to be 'over by over' now the game keeps rolling until something happens
My PC is many many times faster than the PC i had for the original ICC, (and has almost seventy times the memory) yet the game even with graphics TURNED OFF plays much slower when I try and quick sim. I never auto play, but I like to quick sim with the space bat, and make changes quickly.
* Run rate is more important than this game thinks - for ODis it's a big selection yet the game doesn't think the stat is important. It is! I don't want Geoff Boycott in my 20/20 team even if he has a good average !!!
Agree, you have the point a few points back similar to this. It needs fixing, but it is better than most.
Great points, thought they deserved some proper consideration.

I agree with most that Scritty has said, but I will yet again defend the graphics, and say that they are the best in a management game outside FIFA manager (which only seems to sell in Germany). The thing which I like most about the IPL is the franchise/auction system (a blank franchise option would be a must) and I really don't think that women's cricket is necessary. As a side note -
space bat
You really have gone into 2278 :p

I want the Man of the Match picks to actually make sense. Too often I see it going to the batsman/bowler with the highest match aggregate of runs/wickets. That needs to stop because there have been countless times when a particular player has won a match for me and lost out on the MotM. That takes away from the realism for me.
I mentioned it in the past as well. I hope this is fixed or at least tweaked please.

You really have gone into 2278 :p
As of last night it's 2279. Won CC and C&G, came third in the other 50 over comp.
I use my own imported BMP's (I have hundreds) So England is Gooch, Strauss, Gower, Pietersen, Cowdrey, Botham, Russell, Underwood, Gough, Jones and Snow.
I see what sort of player it is then decide who the best fit from the past will be, so all the above have (roughly) the right skills. Botham is an FM bowler and aggressive batting allrounder, Strauss is an offside favouring left handed opener who scores more slowly. If he had been a faster scorer I might have named him Trescothick for example (then used his .BMP instead)
Note for Chris. I do not use any (not one) original .BMP from the game, and play 2002 because of the more realistic ball physics and ability to personalise players with photo's etc)
I have another save of ICC2002 that is in the late 2100's
I can cope with the wierld looking players in 2009, but 10 catches at short square leg in an innings killed it for me (all off fast bowlers). I worked out that it I had three men in an "umbrella" Short backward square, short square and square short cover, bowled short at middle, I could get five of six catches there every game on average, and bowl top sides out for about 50 to 60.
If you add a mid on and mid off, there's another 2 or three overhead catches per game in the bank.
In my first (and only) game, England won the 2010 ashes in Australia, with the Ozzies not making 150 in any innings in the series - and being bowled out for less than 100 6 times in 10 innings.
I was only 18 months into the game, all original players, no "super" regens" with my umbrella short leg field and mid on mid off strategy - I gave up on ICC 2009 after that.
It's a major flaw. The fact that you can't see the ball before it's caught, and the catches to square leg seem to often be when the batsman in inexplicably playing an on drive to a neck high bouncer doesn't help (?!?)
Simon Jones took 33 wickets in that series at less than 12 coming on third or fourth change when the ball was a little older.
I have every ICC game (ICC2002 i have bought 3 times as I have lost disks or they have become corrupted) I bought 2009 the Monday after it was released, but found this issue less than a week later.
I've held this info back until the 2010 season is about to start for real as it might be construed as a "spoiler"
Please fix these for 2010 (please...)

Salary should not be a indicator of a players potential and ability. Maybe Potential Ability and Current Ability can be used instead like in the Football Management games.
If this is corrected, i think Childish Games are going to make quite an achievement

I am a great lover of the ICC games, although there are some imperfections with recent eeditions I feel really do need sorting
1. Specific T20 overseas players to be brought in, and also temporry overseas players while current ones are plaing internationals
2. Strike Rate on Batsman's and Bowlers on stats
3. Pitches like Taunton are renowned for being flat, and this should be programmed in, so that even if spinning pitch is wanted, it is still generally flat.
4. The training seams silly, that some players are getting no training whatsoever, and that all coaches train exactly the same. I would like to see hiring coaches of varying abilities out of the clubs balance.
5. More of a youth team, with a decent variation of players and youth team matches, including international U19
6. The referral system, icluding the red, yellow and green lights for lbws, should be in test cricket.
7. A scouting system for young players
8. LBW are never not out on height, which is rather unrealistic
I'm sure there was more, but cn't remember them right now!!

I agree, when you are in charge of counties, you should be able to sign overseas players just for the T20 Cup e.g hampshire have got shahid afridi and abdul razzaq for the T20 cup. when you are choosing your overseas players, there should be groups for every country e.g australia, bangladesh etc. when you look on the specified group, it should have a list of which players are available for the year. you should also be able to get overseas players for different periods etc anjum is at surrey for the 1st 3 championship games.

if you win the twenty20 cup or runner up, you should qualify for the T20 Chamions League and then choose a squad to take part in it and the overseas players that you got for the tournament should be included if they are available.

1. Introduce IPL and Bidding process related to IPL
2. Add the newly introduced 2 teams Kochi and Pune along with the existing 8
teams. Make new bidding every 3 years
3. Like English country, introduce Ranji, Deodhar, Irani trophy. The player should be able to select country and play that countries Domestic matches. I am from INDIA and if i select INDIA as my team for Domestic Season, i should be able to play Ranji, Deodhar, Irani trophy instead of English County
4. Like players get injured in Test, the same should be introduced in ODI and T20I.
5. Rain affected matches in ODI and T20I.
6. Duckwerth Lewis to be introduced in ODI and T20I.
7.Champions League also needs to be introduced as the teams winning IPL needs to be qualified for CL.
8. U-19 World cup needs to be introduced as a separate window
9. Keep the statistics of Retired Players as un-selectable. I wish to preserve their records and see it in future.
10. The toss, pitch report & presentation ceremony can also be included and some graphics can be alloted for these too.
11. Run-out misses should be introduced.
12. The retirement should not be automatic, it should be as per player wish when a batsman should retire.
13. Man of the Match should be fair. Introduce Man of the Series also.
14. Tri-angular series,Asia Cup, 4 nation tournament and Mini World cup (Knockout) to be introduced.
15. Replacement of Injured Players. Once i played with 15 members and out of which 5 players got injured and i could move on as i could fit 11 players in the team.

Lol. Fair enough. Is that why you guys always use International Cricket Captain and not ICC in the game?
Also, will there be a Champions Trophy, or a version of it, in 2010?
What - Patch 3.3 The Icecrown Citadel (if you google ICC this comes up quite a bit)
I mean the guys at Out Of The Park baseball probably thought they were safe with OOTP...Until Harry Potter ruined it with his "Order of the Phoenix"
Name not really so important.
A bit concerned that many are asking for really cosmetic stuff "trophy names" and "branding".
I'd really like to see major improvements in actual gameplay and depth and immersion (sure branding is a small part of that)
Getting and handling the squad (contracts, retirements, youth players, second eleven etc)
Picking a team (form, experience, match type, "horses for courses" picks, fielding ability (i mean is ther fielding ability in ICC at all yet? if not, why is no-one asking about it?) Running speed, fitness, influence (as discussed a few weeks ago on another thread)
Then finally playing the game. The actual mechanics and decision making of the game itself.
As far as I'm concerned every trophy can be called the "Monkey tennis olympics 1996 part 3" it really doesn't matter - as long as the actual mechanics of gameplay are there.

ICC 2009 is a good game but still requires alot of improvement for it to be a great game.
The major problem i think is that the developers have focussed to much on the highlight graphics and not enough time on game depth or gameplay. Currently the game is solid but with shallow depth and at times shallow gameplay. For me the current graphics don't do anything for the game and frankly i would much rather have a game with lots of depth and basic graphics.
The Football Manager series is a perfect example of this, with unprecedented depth but only basic 2D and 3D graphics, it is the best management game available. I think that ICC 09 is stuck between a game of good graphics (eg FIFA 10) and a game of good depth (FM10), it does not excel in either of these fields and it is time for the developers to make up their mind to either make a visually good game or a game of depth. I think it would be great for the game to adopt FM 3D graphics (basic but smooth and accurate) and also improve the depth and gameplay of the current game.

hi guys..
i played the trial version of ICC 2009.
i downloaded it at about 10pm and soon found out that
2 days didn't necessarily mean 48 hrs:(
anyway i've got a suggestion
in real cricket, especially the T20 format, the fast bowlers bowling leg cutters and off breaks have become common.but in ICC 2009, we have no control over the pace at which bowlers bowl.i'd like to see another tab with; 'slow', 'medium', 'fast' options.
also for the batsman;a control over the stance(frontfoot, backfoot)
would be a nice addition.
thanks for reading.....

You should add some legendary cricketers as unlocked players and set targets to unlock those players... And the allow the player to take complete control of his/her team for example if a cricketer in the game wants to retire from cricket (if he is over aged) he needs the permission of the player... and you should include all kinds of cricket tournaments played around the globe, from all countries domestic seasons to the top level... including IPL, England domestic season, RBS twenty20,...etc... and make the highlight graphics little more realistic!!!..........thats all i have to say for now...I hope You people will ponder on these ideas...

I have being getting pretty iritated whilst playing 2009, because no matter how defensive my players are set to (often when im trying to bat out for a draw) they still get run out. This is ridiculous as the runs wouldnt be thought about. Realy needs sorting, PLEASE
Also, what news is there on this years release date, and also on what has been looked into on the improvements side of things??

Well it is possible to bat defensively and get out either to a mistake or a good ball. However, batting defensively and getting caught out at deep midwicket or getting run-out is crazy. Unfortunately this happens in game and is one of a few minor areas in need of improvement.

Sometimes batsmen run out of patience or lose their composure, and play a rash shot. If it happens too frequently though, then yes it's a problem.

Although the methods are not right (I've complained about the number of catches before) if anything the frequency of outs is actually too low.
Late in the game - in real life - players should probably get out caught behind, bowled by a ball that keeps low, or sometime not keeping the ball down to short(ish) mid wicket or short(ish) cover when they get tired and don't use their wrists properly.
However, in ICC2009, I have saved a match with 4 or sometimes even 5 sessions to bat out time and time again. Racking up 300 or more runs of pitches that the game tells me are terrible (uneven bounce, cloud cover and spin) and done it for perhaps 4 wickets down.
I even get numbers 9, 10 and 11 scoring hundreds on worn pitches where two days earlier (when the pitch was much better) the whole team struggled to muster 200.
Yes this happens now and again in real life - but it happens a lot more in ICC.
But back to your point - yes, when players on defensive DO get out, it is often not in a way that you would expect.

well here are a couple of things
1-STATS,STATS,STATS. lets face it ,all cricket lovers are gaga for statistics.and for a cricket managemment game there is surrprisingly very little variety of stats.i mean we should be able to see the stats of all the players who have played over 30 test matches or 50 odis or something like that. then u can see who has been the best player for you over the years.also we should have series averages and high scores and man of the series stuff.plus we should be able to see our teams performances in the last 10 series or something.i hope this is not asking for much as it wont really require any gamelay changes
2-MORE DOMESTIC LEAGUES. indian league would be nice(hehe i am from india),but even an australian lague would be nice for now and you can include the indian domestic league in the next version.it will add more variety and would even attract more cricketing enthusiasts.
3-CHANGING INTERNATIONAL TEAM. after playing with one team for 30 odd years and taking too them to the top and staying there for some time it can become a little boring.so why not have an option for finding new challenges for yourself.how fun would it be to manage west indies after a stint with australia/india.
4-MORE ENGAGING INTERNATIONAL CAREER.by this i mean the international career should be more realistic.like say if you are managing a country like india,u should be told at the start of the term that you have to be among the top 2 or 3 nations in both formats and have to win a world cup in the next 12 years.else you will be shown the door and look for new pastures.i mean you can be sacked and be given an option by a lower team like bangladesh or west indies to manage them(tthese teams will state their own expectations like winning atleast one test series in the calendar year).consequently if you are able to do well with these teams you should be flooded with offers from boards of other countries who are not in a very good shape.also it would be cool to manage a country like ireland which has a lot of potential.there should be a seperate league for associate nations and the top performers could be awarded the test status.it could basically be like the relegation promotion system in football leagues.zimbabwe could be demoted and ireland could be promoted due to the good performances by ireland team.plus we should be able to ask the curator to prepare the pitch to our liking when playing a home series(in an international career).
4-BETTER KEEPERS AND ALL ROUNDER REGENS. i guess this has been mentioned by quite a few people so i dont need to go into details for this one.just one thing, we should be able to convert a pure batsman or a bowler into an all rounder by giving them required training for a given long time.
5-CHANGE THE RATING SYSTEM. now this is something which most people dont have a problem with but i do.i am playing with pakistan who did not have great results when they last played with zimbabwe.now since i never play tests with zimbabwe it kind of leaves me handicapped.also i sometimes play 2 series with australia in one year.i win both of them.and guess what, uyou dont get any points for it because you have been beating them for the past 2 years(this was a hypothetical situation).i mean we do not get to decide the schedule or our fixtures,is it my fault that we keep playing you again and again and get no points for it when the teams competing with me in rankings are gaining ground by playing with teams they had earlier lost to. in my opinion the rankings should depend on the strength of your opponent and the results of the last 10 international series only.that would be more realistic.also winning the world cup should give a couple of bonus points which should stay with you till the next world cup begins.also their should be rankings for the best allrounders.
i realise that these changes can not be implemented efficiently in such a short time but please do consider them for the future versions of the game
PS-the ipl would also be nice but its something i can live without

Great Post Angad
Stats : Yes. For goodness sake, many people over a certain age only go to live games to record the stats. I have people I don't know come to my local club (Barnt Green) and sit there scoring all day. I don't even think they are members.
Cricket is a stat mad game. Yet ICC has very few.
Worse it "breaks" at very low boundary conditions.
At about 1024 FC wickets it "clocks"(returns to zero).Individual players stats are lost forever once they retire. Even if they are record breakers (except the partnership records)
Domestic Leagues -Well everyone wants them, and from a commercial point of view, having the game regionalised to appeal by a larger audience has got to be a good thing as well.
Changing Int Team - Only Bob Woolmer has ever gone the whole hog (Duncan Fletcher almost - he "advises" for other teams but has not taken on the full "coach" or "manager" position. It's not a big one for me, but I can see its merits. Tom "Why does everyone think he's so great" Moody may well do some day as well.
Better Int Career - Yes. The International part of the game is less interesting to me currently than the domestic. You have too little say on who to bring through and how.
There is no equivalent of a second eleven - but in real life international teams DO have 2nd elevens the "Lions" in Englands case.
Also, even when you are in charge you have no control over central contracts. I would like somne say in the domestic team as well (even when I'm on international duty)
I can win plenty of games and be doing well until late May, then the dolt who takes over from me messes it all up year after year in ICC2009.
This means that I sometimes resign from international cricket (then the guy who takes over picks 6 of my 18 players and leaves me having to play with 2 keepers and 7 batsmen - despite only 3 of my players ever getting central contracts)
Better Keepers and Allrounders - Oh please yes. How long have we asked for this. Keepers and allrounders DO change the game. They DO balance an otherwise unbalanced side.
The Botham, Dev's Dhoni's Gilchrists, Kallis's, Sangakara's, Flintoff's,Kahn's etc of this world DO play a disproportionaly large role in many games they play in.
I think Chris is keen to balance the game, and is perhaps concerned about the effect a super allrounder could have.
Well in real life they are the most exciting players. Be that bowler/batters or keeper/batters, they have been the main icons of the game for at least as long as my life. Even Warne had a good batting average.
In real life Allrounders and keeper batters change games and play a huge role as both match winners and cultural and sporting icons More recently (the last ten years) this has been a pretty regular occurence.
ICC should reflect that (they need to be rare, no more than 4 or 5 in the world at any one time) But ICC seems to make a lot of David Capel's and Derek Pringle's - with the odd Tim Bresnan thrown in - but no Dhoni's, Flintoff's or Kallis's (or Gilchrists, Warne's or so many more that have dominated world cricket in the last 10-15 years)
Rating System - I like this. If you had some control over the 2future tours" itinery that would be nice (not that important - but nice) Also whether to turn down optional series (essp one dayers - England do this quite a bit)
Ratings seem very simple at the moment (for teams that is)

Both our ranking system (which is an old ICC one iirc) and the current ICC ranking system reflects on past results. I don't see an issue with the system, it's simple, efficient and an accurate reflection of the various teams position within the rankings.
The very good all-rounders are very rare, and they will be even rarer with the increasing volume of cricket being played globally.

well i guess you are right about it not being realistic to turn a pure batsman/bowler to an allrounder by just training but in the absence of genuinely good allrounders its kind of like a last resort(as scritty said an allrounder is really important for the balance of the side especially in odis).ANd what about wicketkeeper batsmen.there are plenty of good wicketkeeper batsmen these days and this is a trend which wont be stopping any time soon.(scritty has expressed views exactly similar to mine)
also i am sorry regarding the rating system.i didnt know the icc(international cricket council) follows the same system.you see i am playing with pakistan atm and they had lost their last home test series to zimbabwe in 98 and since i no longer play with them,it kind of does leave me handicapped.also winning the world cup should really add a couple of bonous points(how does winning the world cup affect the actual ratings btw?)
well i hope u agree with my other points.
and thanks for replying to my post, really a huge fan of this game.

when selecting overseas player , id like to be able to see the dates of there chosen country's tours , this way you could be able to estimate how many games he might miss.
also i agree with better allrounder regens, and was wondering if in 2010 there will be Allrounder Opening batsmen?? like shane watson for example , this would give your team tremendous flexibility.

I wouldn't say that is in the slightest bit realistic.
The very good all-rounders are very rare, and they will be even rarer with the increasing volume of cricket being played globally.
I would say that to an extent it certainly is realistic
Flintoff was a barely 80mph trundler picked for ODI batting and little else for the first three years of his international career. Often not bowling at all in his first 20 or so ODI's (and only once finishing his 10 overs in his first 10 ODI's)
Stewart was not a keeper of any standing and was coached up by Jack Richards.
Pietersen (like Hick) played early career as a spinner almost exclusively - and I'm talking full first class career here, not school and 2nd XI. Worcestershire picked Hick specifically as a spinner in 1984 with no interest in his batting
Some became real allrounders from having perhaps one good discipline and one "ok" discipline. And some became "useful" at their weaker discipline to the point where in "horses for courses" conditions they could be very handy.
Akram's batting, Borders bowling, Warne's bowling, Lee's batting, it's a long list if you think about it.
Then there is the real point "The amount of cricket"
Someone give me strength.
Where does this nonsense idea come from. In terms of matches, overs, travelling times, tour lengths etc etc, cricketers from the last 20 years play far FAR less cricket at both FC and test level then their predecessors
Bob Willis, Glenn Mcgrath. They bowled 2800 and 4800 overs (roughly) in tests
Willis bowled another 2800 in FC cricket as well!
Botham, Hadlee, Imran, Kapil,Wasim - even fat bloke Merv Hughes - they put these modern guys to shame.
Ambrose, Walsh. These guys were quick. Back in the late 80's they'd bowl for Northants and Gloucestershire - 300 overs a year, then straight on a tour for the Windies
The much vaunted Ashes 2005 England seam attack Flintoff, Harmison, Jones and Hoggard bowled less than either Willis or McGrath.
EVEN WHEN YOU ADD ALL THEIR OVERS UP.
Anderson will have to play test cricket till he's almost 50 at the rate he's going to get close. Broad is getting a few under his belt, but that's about it.
It's nothing to do with the amount of cricket being played, or travelling. Unless that is the arguement is that they are playing no-where near enough to stay match fit.
Aktar, Lee, Bond? I don't think so. They have the very best training and travel facilities, hardly ever bowl and break down at the touch of a feather.
The stats to make a case for this being due to the amount of cricket being played by them just do not exist.
Aktar, Lee, Bond have bowled so very little it's hardly worth mentioning.
The three PUT TOGETHER bowled barely more test overs than Wasim Akram, and at a a pace not much greater. Wasim also bowled far far more first class overs than any of them.
Bowling 4 overs twice a week in T20 - then claiming you are knackered?? Come off it. This argument is really not very good.
If I were you I wouldn't model anything daft like this in the game, because you will be modelling a myth.

Yeah, I have to agree with you there Scritty. I was reading a lot of stats at the start of the season about there being the most number of days of cricket in the English domestic season since the Benson and Hedges Cup was scrapped. But with the large (and growing) amount of T20 cricket in the calendar, there will be far fewer overs bowled than in that season.
Also, if you need an example of players almost turned into allrounders closer to home, look at Sussex's own batsman (now slow bowling allrounder) Mike Yardy.

It's incredible that childish things are so intent on making as few a changes as possible and yet many people still carry on buying ICC every year in the hope that childish things have made some changes. The ONLY solution it seems is to stop buying ICC for a year so their sales go down. This will encourage them to start actually attempting to make changes instead of finding excuses not to change one thing or another.
PLEASE don't let it come to this situation as I actually enjoy playing ICC but have been extremely dissapointed with the last few versions of the game where there was hardly any changes made to the game. STOP MAKING EXCUSES AND START MAKING CHANGES!!!!!!!!

They are.
The cricket genre is (shockingly) low for good games - essp given the amount of money in the game now.
Chris has always provided a solid game, and this year promises real change. The accusation of stagnation is one that I think hurts Chris and his gang, they were hamstrung by publishers unwillingl to change what they thought was a"cash cow" formula by investing in it.
Childish Things is a small indie dev company. I know not everyone can support them, but I will buy this years (and the next CC game whenever that is)
The cricket game genre needs support
I may like a robust discussion, but if we stop buying the game we may well actually "kill" it.
For £20, and for say one more year (because this year we have had definate if not specific promises of advancement) I will give it another go
Though having said that - if there is not a good step this year, then I might reconsider next.

Yard's progression as a bowler has been specific to the shorter format and resulted in him changing his bowling style. His bowling was always useful as a Left arm Medium in his youth, his "darts" are very effective, as batsman don't know whether to treat him as a spinner or a medium pacer.
All-rounders are a rarity, but I don't see this lack of quality all-round regens in my experience of game play. It's pretty much a luck based scenario, but Chris has been looking at player types and I'm sure we'll make tweaks if neccessary for 2010 on regens.

Support like this is much appreciated, I firmly believe that ICC 2010 will be a step in the right direction, not only that but we have long-term plans as well as short-term ones, being independent has it's advantages, as well as some disadvantages, not least in that lots of good people got made redundant in the process. It has never been the case that we haven't implemented the changes that we all want, due to anything other than resources. I've heard many comparing the game to Football Manager, and saying they'd like to see ICC in a similar mould. They have resources we could only dream of, they actually have full-time staff for a start, let alone a few dozen of them. If we can, we will. If we don't, it's not because we don't care or for any sinister reason.
The cricket gaming genre is something I've been involved with for a few years (here for a couple of years and a certain big website some of you know of). It's not a very big market, we've had some good games that have showed promise in the simulation genre and our management sub-genre is even smaller.
Codemasters latest release will not be on the PC for this year (resources/sales) and who knows what EA are doing, I don't think they have anything in the offering. You then have projects like The Art of Cricket, again, resources restrict it. Cricket Revolution has had some good success.
It's difficult though, because to create the perfect cricket game requires resources, like any project. If you don't have those resources you have to try and build them up and build for the future, I don't see anyone getting the funding to make the perfect cricket game at a click of the fingers, because there simply isn't the money in this genre to do that.
I think we have a great strength in the gameplay, it's what got me addicted to the game back when I was about 11, I'm on a save with Worcs at the moment and it's enthrawling building the team up (should be even more fun in ICC2010). It's not long till you'll get to try ICC 2010 (huh, it's May?) and you can all judge for yourselves on the changes we have made.
Also, it's £15.99 ;)

In International Cricket Captain 2010:
We should have 3 or 4 seasons of ICC WORLD CUP
We should have all the 3 or 4 seasons of ICC CHAMPIONS TROPHY
We should have al the seasons of ICC WORLD CUP T20 2007,2009, and 2010.
We Should have the 1 or 2 seasons of ICC UNDER-19 WORLD CUP
We should have the ICC WOMEN'S WORLD CUP T20 2009, and 2010
We Should have more T20 games
We Should have authority to make own series and authority to make series name.
We Should have authority to set Prize Amounts for the teams and player FOR EXAMPLE: Man of the match, man of the series, runner teams, winner teams etc.
We should have game requirments low and it can run in lower pc very easy and in great pc very fast and well.
We Should have more good things

I mentioned in another thread having an even harder game mode - but I take it back. Anyone wanting a real challenge should just take over Worcestershire.
Phil Jacques has notched 5 ducks on his first 8 innings in all competitions, and our seam blowing is that slow Geoffrey Boycott's mum is queueing up for a net against them (lead by a guy every other county sacked, in his late thirties)
A keeper who is doing is "A" Levels and not available, and number 3 batsman (Moeen Ali) who is having to do all the spin bowling (because we have not got any proper ones)

I can't wait to do a 2010 Worcs save. With regards to price, I have no impact on this whatsoever, but it was changed to £15.99 (on-line, we have very limited control on Retail price) not long after release for several reasons, which could still be in effect for 2010, in fact it's down to £10 now. I think the Hall of Fame is a very likely prospect for this year, as part of the 'Long requested features' package that Sureshot mentions whenever the topic of new features is brought up. As I've said before, I would also like to see an Australian competition, and think that it may be quite likely this year. Both Aus and Sureshot seem quietly confident.

You know what would be nice... Career Strike Rates. They're on Cricinfo :).
As far as new leagues... great, more content, to the detriment of improving the overall gameplay and making the animations a little better (I mean sometimes I just turn highlights off as it's only the whole suspense of the thing that makes it interesting). Still, I'd rather see A sides and more work with regards to Second teams added than a new domestic League.

I think that quite a smart new feature for ICC2010, which would be quite realistic in one day games, would be to have the choice of asking the keeper to stand up to the stumps to medium pacers and fast bowlers in order to try and create pressure and get a stumping. Obviously you'd be running the risk that he'd let through extra byes or drop a catch, depending on how good a keeper he is.

- The ability, when managing a country, to control central contracts - so the players you pick dont end up retiring, because none of the counties sign them.
---
I thinks the question is "Will it be on steam this time?". Not sure what you meant by achs though, hahaman.
Steam achievements probably.

Steam achievements probably.
Well done :D Not a Steam user myself so thanks for that.
Also, it would be easier to adjust the transfer system so that the clubs buy them as opposed to using the abusable central contracts. Also, the associate nations would be hard to implement because of the way the game tries to mirror real life; as there is no definite way to gain test status, and the devs may think of it as just a gimmick, almost.

Medium pacers standing up is brill and yes
Can we finally have a game where the best keeper in the world almost (Foster) is worse than someone like Tim Ambrose because one bats better. There is no keeper stats which is annoying.

I do think that there is a keeper stat somewhere but its just not shown and there isn't any way of finding out if your keepers doing well.
Perhaps a stat for completed catches/missed catches and completed stumpings/missed stumpings.

1. Pace of the balls need to be shown
2. Better finance system
3. Commentary Revamp
4. Able to move club or country during career
5. More control over coaches
6. More leagues (Aussie Domestic)
7. IPL
8. Able to schedule test series/ odi series length
9. More stats
10. Better graphics in match engine
11. Music Soundtrack
12. Minor Counties Champ
Remember guys Cricket Coach is nearly better than Cricket Captain now. I'd give it Three Years and Cricket Coach will be the better game at this rate. You need to step it up!

These two points would be great to have, especially the first option,
I haven't posted on here in quite a while, do people know if there is a date for the release yet?,
sorry to go a bit OT...

Love the last two posts.
Pace of balls. I can't believe it would be that difficult to put in
Control Central Contract. Again, a great idea. Perhpas a "no more than 4 from any county" rule. (I believe there is such a rule - or at least an agreement - for this in real life)
Add your own MP3's might be nice (and again pretty simple I'd have thought)
Not earth shattering, but nice all the same.

One very small thing that I'd like to see is that at the start of when your bowling, to be able to choose your designated number 2 bowler as the first opening bowler. It's obviously not a very big thing, but i presume quite easy to implement

Good ideas, and they may be quite simple to implement, but you gotta remember, there's no more than half a dozen people working on this with a budget that would be barely more than a bigger companies yearly lunch bill.
So sometimes little features which we'd love to see (e.g. pace of balls, definitely) would need to be benched for higher prioritised features for the game.
Let's hope its in, but if not, at least we can be assured it's coming.

Well, the gamez name is International Cricket Captain.....
BUT,
We never get to see who is the Opposition Captain!! which I find so very ridiculous!!
FeaturesI would Like :-
==================
1. IPL
2. TV Replays For Runouts
3. Rain in ODIs (D/L situationsif possible)
4. Option Of Keeper standing up for R/LM, R/LMF ( as of now we can do it thru spinner field set)
5. Man Of The Series (WorldCups etc)
6. ICC Cricket Awards (based on point system)
7. Bowler Speeds
8. Non direct Runouts
9. Display of Opponent Captains (as of now we dont know our Opp cap)
10. Night game flood lights gfx
11. Creation of WORLD XI TEAMS ( like 15 per team DREAM TEAM ) and I hope dey r let online... wid a online feature called DREAM TEAM WARS or so...
12th Man :: SAME LEVEL ONLINE ZONE >> where teams are of equal year group..coz no point a 2085 team team playing a 2011 team...we know who will win!! anyways its just an option or say kinda a club zone...where u meet ur level teams or say a basic 2010-12 year teams.

IPL would just be an additional league and it seems pointless to do just that without Indian domestic leagues as that's where more of the players come from (Extra leagues should mainly be a DB issue).
Third umpire type replay would be nice.
Rain in ODs - Would be great. However, I've heard that they can't use D/L (and why would you want to?).
Keeper standing up should defiantly be an option. Keepers need more stats aswell. We need to see catch%s, stumping%s, etc..
More awards would be great, MotS, MotT, TotT, TotY, PotY, B(owler)otY, B(atsman)otY, Golden Bat, Golden Ball.
Bowler speeds would be great. as would indications of whether the ball is swinging/reversing.
Non direct run-outs would be in my wish of having more (and better looking) animations. The match engine also looks a bit faded, if the colours were a little bit richer it would look far better.
And what about places to put pictures?

Just a little thought in county cricket, at the moment every year durham play the mcc, county champions or not. This needs to be changed so that the best county plays the mcc, not just durham.

12 man team wish list updated :)
PS:- feature 11 and 12 can help eachoder...DREAM TEAMS must be limited to PLAYERS AVAILABLE in 2010...thus DREAM TEAM WARS enable fight between the legends of the game!! gonna be a rocking contest !!!
and well for IPL...dey need not create a whole Indian domestic comp. coz' most IPL players are named under INDIAN INTERNATIONAL SELCTION category!
IPL gives a feel of WORLD XI contest!!
O Boy! Kinda a long PS :P

Please fix how bowlers get amazing and batsman crap. In 2011 I got control of England. Two players who'd played more than 25 FC matches averaged 50. There were about 25 who averaged under 22 in the same time period.

Time to start, but not really time to finish (i hope)
Having said that, I still play Test Cricket (1981 Cases Computer Simulations) and haven't finished yet (Not to mention 'Owzat by Challenge Software - that gets a very regular look in)

I dont know if I am too late or not, but graphics need to be much more improved, as a few have said above.
Also, I think the demo version should be longer than 2 days because I personally dont think 2 days is long enough for someone to try it and feel if they like it or not.
And of course, introduce more aspects to the game like camera angles, more competitions etc.
