New Zealand-287 all out
D.Vettori-60 P.Fulton-58 R.Sidebottom 3-68 S.Harmison 2-68 England-280 all out Cook 118 I.O'Brien 5-58 D.Vettori 3-50 New Zealand-253 all out J.Ryder-87 D.Vettori-42 England-264 for 3 K.Pietersen-111no I.Bell-63 D.Vettori 2-54 Man of the Match Alastair Cook I could blame the loss on any number of reasons the unlucky injury to Bell who was batting well or the drop of Pietersen when he only had 4 to name two but in the end we didn't get enough runs in our secoind innings. Nine batsmen got starts but didn't go on to make 100's also we played Panesar poorly in the second innings though it was a spinning track we should have made him work harder for those wickets. We got the better of the conditions really but we no-one put in the match winning performance, O'Brien and Vettori bowled well in the first innings but they didn't have enough to defend in the second and once Pietersen got in the result was decided. |

The pitch for the second test looks as though it will be perfect for batting but again spin will playa part later on cloud will be prominent early with some rain expected on the first day
New Zealand have had to make a change and Jamie How has come in for the injured Matthew Bell whilst Tim Southee has been dropped for the more aggressive Mark Gillespie to give the attack some extra bite. They will be hoping this time one of their batsmen can push on and make a 100. 1.P.Fulton 2.J.How 3.J.Ryder 4.R.Taylor 5.D.Flynn 6.J.Oram 7.B.McCullum (wkt) 8.D.Vettori (capt) 9.K.Mills 10.M.Gillespie 11.I.O'Brien England have made one change dropping one of their star performers in the last test Monty Panesar for Sajid Mahmood. New Zealand will be hoping that they can remove Alastair Cook Early in this test after his 174 in the last. 1.A.Cook 2.M.Vaughan 3.K.Pietersen 4.I.Bell 5.A.Strauss 6.M.Prior 7.A.Flintoff 8.S.Mahmood 9.R.Sidebottom 10.S.Harmison 11.M.Hoggard |

Fleming I may agree with but Bond is still playing in ODI's and even so its too soon to bring him in as coach for bowling i would look abroad for a bowling coach or to someone like chris cairns but unfortunatly there arent many standout choices from New Zealand as coaches

England-426 all out
Vaughan-119 Cook-80 Mills 5-88 Gillespie 2-89 New Zealand-162 all out Harmison 5-24 Sidebottom 3-40 New Zealand-350 all out Fulton-92 McCullum-58 Flintoff 3-53 Sidebottom 3-87 A first Innings batting collapse spawned the defeat here we could and should have posted a much better total especially on such a flat pitch but none of the batsmen really applied themselves Jacob Oram is in poor form which makes the selection of the one cay squad harder as he is integral (perhaps I should have picked Grant Elliott?) Mills bowled well taking 5-88 in the first innings and ripping out the middle order after a 190 run opening stand threatened a much higher total than the 426 they made but despite his good bowling he lacked support and the england tail put them back on top then Harmison ripped out our openers then Sidebottom took 3 wickets before harmison returned to remove McCullum, Vettori and Mills in one spell. Asked to follow on we made a better fist of the task with Fulton making 92 Taylor 35 and McCullum 58 but this was not enough and England only needed 86 to win and knocked them off desite good work from our bowlers to get them 6 down. We will have to improve drastically to avoid a whitewash |

In a game badly affected by rain New Zealand had the better of it with Ryder and Taylor both making 80's but neither able to push onto a hundred then after a huge opening stand of 172 by peters and White the bowlers fought back to bowl them out for 270 then new zealand posted 212 for 4 declared with How they then gave themselves a session to bowl at Northamptonshire but only took one wicket in what was always going to be a draw when they lost almost 2 sessions to the weather
